Verbos Imperfect (Verbs)

 

To describe activities that you and others used to do, to describe incomplete actions or conditions, and to describe an action that coincides with another action. Equivalent of three forms in English: I worked / used to work / was working.

Imperfect. Exceptions (ser, ir, ver)

Infinitive => AR ER IR SER (to be) IR (to go) VER (to see)
Yo aba ía ía era iba veía
Tú abas ías ías eras ibas veías
Él, Ella, Usted aba ía ía era iba veía
             
Nosotros ábamos íamos íamos éramos íbamos veíamos
Vosotros abais íais íais erais ibais veíais

Ellos, Ellas, Uds

 aban ían ían eran iban veían

Imperfect

What was happening What used to happen I was reading He was tall
He loved his family It was 3:30 What happened usually or repeatedly in the past. Age and time in the past must be in imperfect.
Verbs ending in: -ing or used to. were, was, etc.

Imperfect of hay is había  (there was, there were, there used to be)

  To narrate a series of past actions     To describe mental, physical and emotional states or conditions
Prendí la computadoras, leí mi correo electrónico y luego le escribí un mensaje a Marisol I turned on the computer, read my email and wrote Marisol a message.   La chica quería descansar, Se sentía mal y tenía dolor de cabeza The girl wanted to rest. She felt ill and had a headache
Jim paró el autobús, abrió la ventanilla y saludó a doña Mercedes Jim stopped the bus, open the window, and greeted doña Mercedes   Ellos eran altos y tenían los ojos verdes They were tall and they had green eyes
      Estábamos felices de ver a la familia We were happy to see the family
